In the meantime…

Until I get my photos up and write a bit about being a Shakespear Tourist in Stratford, take a gander at this great blog from Jac in London. Enjoy :)

EDIT: Ohhh, take a look at Sara’s farm in Yorkshire too – she makes mine & Hedgie’s To Do lists look easy!

Bard McBurro is Back!

Yes! Fresh from a four-day world tour of Stratford and the surrounding Environs (to wit, Warwick, Ryton and that most glittering of jewels, Wolverhampton) McBurro Productions can proudly announce the triumphant return of your favourite* spinner of garden-based** tales!

More information you say? You guys! OK, I’ll upload the photos tonight but I warn you now – neither me nor my lovely bottom are in any of them. Sorry.

In the meantime, here is a quick veggie update***:

  • Carrots – No Action. Not a thing. Nowt.
  • Beans – By god! I can almost hear these buggers growing – 1 day I have one little shoot, the next 5, the next 7 with leaves!
  • Mixed Salad Leaves – See Carrots.
  • Radish – 1 row has died I think – not one leaf. The other row is going strong.
  • Rocket – See Mixed Salad Leaves.
  • Lettuce – See Rocket.
  • Tomatoes – 1 died, 1 weak, 1 strong.
  • Potatoes – Going strong but no flowers yet.
  • Lettuce (new from my mum) – touch and go after they dried out during my World Tour of The Midlands.

* This may well be untrue. Let me live with the dream.

** Well, some are garden-based. Most are pure tosh and consist of 1 part ramblings, 2 parts innuendos and 1 part typos.

*** DO DODO DO ~ VEG UPDATE! ~ DO DODO DO

So what have I been doing…?

Well, way back on the 10th I got my arse out into the garden and spread my seeds out for all to see. And what did I plant? Let me tell you, o kinder… I planted:

  • Carrots – 2 rows.
  • Beans – 1 row (think they were dwarf runner – another row to be planted in June).
  • Mixed Salad Leaves – 1 row.
  • Radish – 2 or 3 rows, can’t remember.
  • Rocket – 1 row.
  • Lettuce – 2 rows.

I’m hoping this little lot will keep me & the mistress suitably entertained in the next few weeks. I’m also hoping I find I like radishes as I can’t ever remember doing so :)

As for the other crops, the tomatoes are down from 3 to 2 after a water-logging incident, the potatoes are going great guns but I should have used bigger pots, the leeks are doing well (I think – they seem the same size as ever but least none have keeled over) and the brussels spouts have been eaten by slugs. Nematods have been ordered, the bastards.

In related news, I’m planning to get all my beds in this year so I can start proper for the next season. Watch this space for a bed & back update.

Have you missed me?

Sorry I’ve been quiet of late. In truth I had a week off work to do some DIY and put up a fence (I did some veg stuff as well) but have felt no desire to write about any of it :(  In fact the time I *have* spent on the computer, I was preparing to hold a horror party in second life on my little island.

I shall make amends soon – and get back to reading all your blogs too, for I have been most neglectful in that respect as well.

Vote For Me!

There is a trowel wielding mouse I met recently who is soliciting votes for good gardening websites. As there is no “Best Blog To Make Me Laugh Until Wee Came Out!” category, or “Bestest Blog Run By A Handsome Devil With A Cheeky Twinkle!” category, or even “Topmost Blog With A Burro Involved But Without Rumpy Pumpy With Said Burro!” category then you can’t vote for me, which makes the title of this post somewhat misleading. Sorry.

Whilst you mentally draft you letters of complaint for the absence of aforementioned categories, pop over to Trowel The Mouse (not the real name but I like it as it sounds like a great game at a local fair) and vote for some other less wee-releasing blogs. (grumble grumble never win owt, me grumble gripe unloved moan grumble buggers!)*

* Another lie! I’ve just had a call from our IT department to say I’ve won a 3-night break in the Lakes. All for filling in an online survey. Blimey! I’m buying me a lottery ticket today!

Church of the Wild Burro

My mate Soo pointed out yesterday that I hadn’t posted for a while. Given she knows I am a lazy bugger, she shouldn’t need to ask what has kept me from the blog but she did. Here goes. I have been engaged in being lazy and playing Second Life. I am weak. But I have managed to drag my arse off the settee a few times to actually go out into the garden and plant things! Here’s the skinny:

About 3 (maybe 4) weeks ago I planted 3 tubs of spuds my mum had chitted - they are doing very nicely, thank you for asking. Not long after that my Dad gave me some leek and brussel sprout seedlings. Being lazy* I have only just got around to planting those** (29 leeklings and 4 sproutlings).

A new addition to this growing army of plants is 3 tomato seedlings from my mum and a packet of beans I bought from Wilko’s yesterday. I have recently dug over the 3 beds I have and dug in 7 bags of horse manure** so the beans and some lettuces are going out this weekend.

Phew. I think I should start my own church and get my loyal and devoted followers to do this stuff for me. The pretty ones can give me sponge baths. Without the sponges.

* To be fair, I have been busy with home stuff – decorating, looking for new bedroom furniture, other stuff I can’t mention yet…

** I hadn’t thought about the brussels when I dug the soil over and manured it. Let see how they do, eh?
