Jesus! I couldn’t eat this bugger! It’s all I could do not to call the local priest in and have it exorcised before driving a stake through its twisted heart!

Huh! I was reading about this the other day and apparently it’s due to being pollinated by multiple different varieties – and it’s something that older varieties are more prone too. Probably means some local bees have been at several different varieties of toms at the same time!

It’s an uprising! Mutant tomatoes will be taking over the world on the 29 November 2007 at 11.29 am. Be afraid…

That tomato set fruit like a SOB, and then they all grew together into a giant fruity blob.
So far, it hasn’t attacked anyone.
So far.

It’s all a bit scary, these beggars are appearing all around the world… (http://www.pinktentacle.com/2006/07/mutant-tomato-harvested-in-kyoto/)
I feel a sense of impending doom!
There is an extremely scientific explanation here: http://www.ingentaconnect.com/content/mksg/ppl/1997/00000099/00000002/art00014?crawler=true
which would be reassuring if I understood it, but I figure they’ll just catch the common cold or be killed by saltwater in the end… it just depends how many humans they kill in the meantime.
Last one in the underground bunker is plant food!

Whoops!
Mutant links appear to dislike whitespace wrapping: http://www.pinktentacle.com/2006/07/mutant-tomato-harvested-in-kyoto/ for those of you sharing my bunker!

Oh Sweet Lord!! Quik, you get the truck started, I’ll get some supplies and guns – we’re heading for the hills and I’ll shoot any veg that gets in our way!
This made me heave! “It’s the first time I’ve ever seen a tomato with a fully formed face.”
